Online Computer Library Center

OCLC

OCLC is a nonprofit, membership-based computer library service and research organization dedicated to furthering public access to the world's information and reducing costs.

Highlights

  • I got joy from knowing my designs were for college students, professors, librarians, and their staff.

  • Engaging experiences, like Pelatonia, kept me challenged. They also give back to their community by holding a food drive I attended.

  • I also worked with different cultures and people from many places, such as the Netherlands, India, and China.

  • I Learned Figma and Miro.

What I did while at OCLC

SENIOR UI/UX DESIGNER

I collaborated with internal and external teams, including Product Analysts, managers, and developers. As part of the Experience team, I contributed to leading the UI architecture overhaul for WorldShare, a global enterprise application used by libraries and universities.

Experience Design

UI: User Interface Design

Worked on an In-house Design System

Using React and Material Design.

I contributed to designing components for OCLC's Design System.

These components were used to redevelop existing interfaces, enhance usability and performance, uphold accessibility requirements, and optimize navigation structure, page layouts, database tables, forms, and information architecture. â€‹

My contributions included pagination, data grids, text fields, and iconography design.

Experience Design

UX: User Experience Design

I was responsible for conducting a heuristic evaluation and audit using Miro and Figma for the WordShare legacy modernization project.

As part of the Experience team, I contributed to leading the UI architecture overhaul for WorldShare, a global enterprise application used by libraries and universities.

I defined and implemented innovative solutions from product managers and analysts, human-centered design best practices, and accessibility analysts.

I transformed wireframes and UX strategies into created high-fidelity, interactive prototypes using Figma.

Project Management

SchoolWise

I managed this small but significant project—a library portal for school-age students in the Netherlands. I worked with Project Analysts, Developers, and Architects.

I was responsible for re-designing an existing product.

The stakeholders wanted something inclusive to kids with a new bright color palette. The product also needed to be rewritten. The developers and I met to discuss possibilities using existing code with out-of-the-box solutions.

With those requirements in mind, we designed and developed fun, accessible UI options for users to navigate, organize, chat, browse, discover, and read!

I used Figma to produce prototypes, graphics, iconography, and web architecture. I led design iterations and discussed feedback from Stakeholders, implementing something new every week.

What people I worked with have to say!

"I loved working with Gina! Together we went through the feature, what it needs to do and how it should look. After discussing her mock-ups with the clients I went back with their feedback and Gina and I improved the feature so it really will work in the way clients need it to work. Working with Gina was a great cooperation. Together we thought of a lot of important points and were able to satisfy the customer."
